For some odd reason lately I've run into a few systems where I just simply can't install SuRun at all. The installer simply exits without any errors or anything that I can find. In fact, it's as if it never runs at all. The executable will appear in the task list for a few moments then simply go away. I never see a window or anything to indicate that it even was trying to start. No new entries appear in the system logs nor any other indicator that I could find whatsoever of problems. In the past I've had issues with some things that violate DEP simply exiting like this without a window (even though you're supposed to get an error message informing you if this happens) so I tried adding the installer to the exceptions list to not use DEP, but this didn't help either. I can't think of any unique factors in the setups of the systems that do work versus those that do not either. I've installed SuRun successfully on one system that was nLite optimized and yet it would fail on another that was just a pure copy of Windows straight from the original CD, but then I'll see another nLite optimized system fail while a pure copy will work.

Does the installer have any known dependencies that I might perhaps not be meeting correctly?
I assume that you use Windows Vista or Windows 7.

It's a known Bug in SuRun 1.2.0.8 that you can't install SuRun when you have Aero enabled.
If you disable Aero, SuRun should install fine.
If you use Windows 7, I suggest that you use the "current" 1.2.0.9 Beta: http://forum.kay-bruns.de/post/2888
I'm sorry. I had to rewrite the message and the exact OS name was lost in the process. Actually, I'm using Windows XP, though thanks for the info since I do prefer SuRun to UAC on Vista/7 systems. Interestingly enough I think I've installed it with Aero enabled on 7 at least once, but I'll admit I don't remember for certain. I do run 7 from time to time, so I'll give that beta a shot as soon as I boot into it again.

Since the systems I couldn't get it to install on were XP though, Aero is a non-issue.
I've got no clue why installing SuRun does not work for you... sorry!

A few days "Rico" wrote in the Beta Forum about "Kaspersky AV" conflicting with SuRuns installation on Windows 7 x64... Maybe this is a behavioral detected false positive and also true for Windows XP.

I don't use AV resident shields. They do more harm than good and good practices (such as installing SuRun, lol) make them unnecessary (you can still always manually scan questionable stuff anyway.)

The good news is that the latest beta (I didn't try earlier versions) will install on my EeePC at least (I haven't tried any of the other problem systems yet as most are now out of my hands,) so I guess whatever the latest stable version's installer does not like, the newer one can get along with. Hopefully I won't have any problems using the beta, so for now I should be ok. (I'll try earlier betas if I run into problems.)
