SuRun Issues

Hi,

This is a great tool! I am having a little issue though. Maybe you can help. When I try to install a program as an SuRunners group user SuRun asks me to setup my admin user as an SuRunners user and will not let me install the program. This happens on all programs. I have tried this on multiple computers and the same thing happens. One thing that is different on my system is I am on an Active Directory Domain and the user that is in the SuRunners user group is a member of the domain. I have tried adding my admin user to the SuRunners group but the same thing happens.

The current stable release of SuRun does not work properly with domain computers.

On domain computers domain users are put to the local machine as global groups within local groups.
SuRun 1.0.3.0 is not aware of that and will not work on your system. Sorry!

Please try the current Beta.
It is pretty stable and will get "release" state after I wrote new Install/Uninstall programs for it.
The Beta is aware of global groups and should work with your system.
I you disable everything in the "Try starting certain programs AUTOMAGICALLY with elevated rights" Setup option you will get almost the same functionality as with SuRun 1.0.3.0

Just an FYI. I am very excited about this software! This will relieve a lot of security headaches I have had to deal with in the past. Great work on this software!

The beta works like a charm on domain workstations. I like the added features also. The ability to change SuRun settings in the control panel is great along with program rights granularity. Nice work Kay.

I am running 1.02.109 beta and it is even better than the "release" version I had downloaded on Feb 21.
It took a little while to figure out how to access the options in the program, as it is not listed in the program list.
I later figured out that it could be in the control panel, and there it was.
I found out about this little gem from the Wilders Forum. Very glad I did.

Awesome. even though, I can't see how the "release" version could possibly be better than the beta ;-)
Can I install over the beta, or would it be better to un-install first?

I'd recommend to update SuRun.

If you just update, no settings are lost.
If you uninstall first, SuRun cleans all settings.

The configuration option at install doesn't seem to work (InstallSuRun /INSTALL SuRunSetup.INI) I consistently get the default settings. Works fine if I manually configure. OS is WinXP SP3

Well I discovered my problem. I needed to specify the full path to the INI file even if it is in the same directory as InstalSuRun.exe.

Thanks for finding the problem yourself. :-)

SuRun indeed needs a fully qualified path for importing settings.
This is by intention to avoid potential risks with ambiguous file names.

Perhaps I should implement a warning Message if the settings file could not be found or if it is invalid. :blush:
