SuRun and Samba Domain

Hi Kay,

First before I go into my issue let me ask you this, is SuRun compatible with a Samba Domain? I am guessing not. The way that AD and Samba do LDAP are quite different.

Here is the issue I am having: I am trying to use SuRun with a Samba domain on a Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 workstation. When I try to run any program from a domain users account SuRun tells me that my password is not correct. SuRun locks down the account correctly from what I can tell.

Hi Jeff,

I don't have a SAMBA Domain handy, so I must try to guess what's going on.
One beta Tester of SuRun 1.2.0.6 (FRS) has a SAMBA domain and SuRun seems to work fine on his system.
He had Problems with SuRun 1.2.0.5 that were solved with the current version.

What I don't know is, did he force SuRun to ask for the user's password?

If you switch off the "ask for users password" option, does it work?

If it does not work... where can I get a VMware/VirtualPC image with an installed SAMBA server?
(I have a VMware image with Vista Business... that should do it for testing purposes)

Hi Kay,

I was running with the "User must enter their password" option on. I have turned it off and SuRun works correctly now. Will the password issue be fixed in a future release? As for a virtual machine with samba installed I am not aware of one that is preconfigured. Usually logging on as <DOMAIN>\<User> should work, even for "SuRun /RunAs <cmd>".

The SAMBA server is not installed/configured as PDC in the vm image and the howto is pretty long.
Unfortunately I currently don't have time to play with it.
I'll try to figure out what's on as soon as I have some more spare time.

Hey no worries. Not typing in a password is not a big deal. I still receive the option from SuRun to allow or deny the process from running. This is more secure anyway. Thanks for the great program.
