Scrambled Desktop

I have to use Windows XP NetMeeting with remote PC users. While connected, when I attempt to change any SuRun settings in the Control Panel, I get a completely scrambled desktop. I get multiple taskbars and icons. I can't see the SuRun settings anymore and I'm not able make any changes because I can't see the SuRun interface and it times out before I can enter the admin password. This strange result only happens when using NetMeeting on remote PCs. I logged into the admin user account and disabled both boxes on the Safe Desktop, but the scrambled desktop still happens in both the limited account and the admin account using NetMeeting. Have you heard of this before? Thanks.

This is just normal.
SuRun uses a safe dasktop for the GUI. Only SYSTEM processes can access this Desktop.
NetMeeting has no access to this desktop, as it runs in the user context. Even "SuRun NetMeeting" would not work.

Try TeamViewer.
It runs as SYSTEM an can access SuRuns safe Desktop.

Thank you Kay. I will try this software. I am wondering, will RealVNC work or any VNC instead of TeamViewer?

I've heard that some VNC variants now use the system account too, but I never tried that out myself yet.

Hello Kay,

I am wondering if I elevate NetMeeting to Local System Account through Sysinternals PsExec if it will work?
psexec -i -d -s "c\program files\netmeeting\conf.exe"

I verified through Process Explorer that conf.exe is running with system rights.
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

I am disappointed. NetMeeting elevated to System still does not work. Scrambled desktop still exists. Very sad. :(

Just try out TeamViewer, it works just fine :-)

Thank you, Kay. I wanted to let you know that I tried UltraVNC and it works. No scrambled desktop when trying to access the SuRun settings. The UltraVNC service runs as a SYSTEM process, this was verified through Process Explorer. You also have the option for end to end encryption. Very Happy. :)
