long-view
First - thanks for a great program
Second I'm getting myself a bit confused. I have installed SuRun to my old Admin account and then in the SuRunners group added :
"C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 3\AWC.exe" /startup"
1=""C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI\psi.exe" --start-in-tray"
2=""C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqsnotify.exe""
3=""D:\Storage\Programs Installed\D Temp\DTemp.exe""
4=""D:\Storage\Programs Installed\CoreTemp\Core Temp.exe""
5=""C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI\psi.exe""
6=""C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\jv16PT.exe""
7=""C:\Program Files\DiskTrix\UltimateDefrag2008\UDefrag.exe""
8=""C:\Program Files\Shadow Defender\Defender.exe""
9="C:\RegSeeker\RegSeeker.exe"
10=""C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 3\AutoSweep.exe" /all"
11=""C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 3\AWC.exe""
I have not put a check against "User can only run........rights". My understanding is that the above programs all have elevated rights and can operate without any further input from me ? Everything else operates as limited ? but can be run if I want to give it permission ?
when I download and try to install new programs I get a message saying I have to give permission - which is what I want - so everything seems to be as it should be ?
Is there anything else that I really have to do ? everything seems to be working fine - I'm just concerned that I might have missed some essential point.
Thanks again for this program
Kay
Hello Long View,
The user's program list has several purposes.
If you check "User can only run predefined programs with elevated rights" then it is absolutely necessary to have every program in that list that you want to start elevated.
You did not check this option. That means that you can start any program you whish with elevated rights.
So this option is just changing defaults for programs not in this list.
The first icon (or option group) in the program list is for how SuRun should get permission to start this program with elevated rights.
As default SuRun will ask the user for permission to launch the program.
If you want a program to start elevated without SuRun questioning for permission, you need to check "don't ask and always start the program with elevated rights". This only means that SuRun does not ask you if the program may be started with elevated rights and that it always clicks "OK". You still need to choose "Start as Administrator".
Checking "don't ask and NEVER start the program with elevated rights" means that you are not allowed to run this app with elevated rights. SuRun always clicks "cancel".
The second icon (or option group) for a program in the list is about what SuRuns execution hooks should do.
The default option is "ask only if the program requires to run with elevated rights. (Manifest, 'Install.exe' etc.)". That means that SuRun will check if the program seems to need to be run as admin and if yes, it will ask you to do so.
If you want a program to start elevated when you just double click it, you need to check "start the program automagically with elevated rights". With this option you (mostly) do not need to select "Start as Admin". SuRuns hook will always try to start this program with administrative rights.
If SuRun accidentally detects that a program should be run elevated but that's not true, you should check "NEVER start the program automagically with elevated rights". So you will not be asked anymore.
I hope that helped :-)
