[gelöscht] When I try to run SuRun Settings from the Control Panel I get an empty desktop and a text in a lower right: SuRun is not responding! This can be caused by a host intrusion protection system (HIPS) that ist trying to tell you something. Click here to switch back to your desktop. I I click on that text, I get my desktop back and a small text box in a lower right: Click here to switch back to SuRun's Desktop. When I log off, I get: The following programs are still running: SuRun This program is preventing you from logging off.
Kay I did not try Server 2008 yet. But there seem to be some issues with Windows 2003 Server and AD already. It seems that SuRuns GUI is blocked by the OS, but I can't say exactly where. What SuRun version do you use? Are you familiar with with DebugView, ProcessExplorer and debugging apps?
[gelöscht] I use the latest version (1.2.0.5). I am familiar with debugging Linux apps, but I could try Windows too, if you give me some instructions.
[gelöscht] Until it is not fixed (I cannot change surun settings from the gui), how can I change settings? I tried to backup config on another PC, and then tried to restore on Win 2008, but it didn't change anything. I want to not use "Display user status in taskbar". I ran surun /RESTORE file.txt, where file.txt is: [SuRun] Version=1.2.0.5 BlurDesk=1 FadeDesk=1 SavePW=1 PwTimeOut=0 AdminNoPassWarn=2 CtrlAsAdmin=0 CmdAsAdmin=0 ExpAsAdmin=0 RestartAsAdmin=0 StartAsAdmin=0 HideExpertSettings=1 UseIShExHook=1 UseIATHook=1 TestReqAdmin=1 ShowAutoRuns=1 ShowTrayAdmin=10 NoConvAdmin=0 NoConvUser=0 DefHideSuRun=0 [User0] Name=user IsLocalUser=1 NoRunSetup=0 RestrictApps=0 UserTSA=0 HideFromUser=0 ReqPw4Setup=0 But I still get user status in taskbar. I tried to change Name=user to Name=domain\user (because the 1st PC is not in the domain, while the 2nd is), didn't help.
Kay You'd need to set Name=Domain\User and IsLocalUser=0 You also must import SuRun Settings from a real Admin account and probably from a domain admin account, if you're on a domain. BTW: I (try to) come back later with the debugging instructions... I need to put a lot status messages into SuRun that it sends to the Windows debug output. This takes some time.
[gelöscht] It worked, thanks. One problem left - on win 2008 SuRun is in traybar for Administrator, which is not a member of SuRunners group. There is no such problem on win 2003.
[gelöscht] > Did you turn the tray icon off for non SuRunners? How can I do it? I do not see such option in surun settings.
Kay "Display an icon in the taskbar notification area for non members of the 'SuRunners' group" is in SuRun Settings on the page "Advanced". The corresponding Backup/Restore Option is "ShowTrayAdmin=x" in section "[SuRun]". The x values are 0 ...do not show an icon 1 ...show icon for all users 2 ...show icon for admins 8 ... additionally show balloon tips (this is added to one of the other values) default x is 10 (show icon and balloon tips for admins)
Kay Sorry: I forgot to mention that you need to enable "Show SuRun settings for experienced users" on the page "Common Settings", then you'll see the "Advanced" page.
Kay Today I fixed a problem with Outlook 2007 running in a WS2003 Domain. But I did not see any problems with SuRuns safe Desktop. Could you please give SuRun 1.2.0.6 beta 6 a try and tell me if you still not see SuRuns GUI?
