I didn't upgrade Sandboxie nor SuRun, so the change in SuRun behaviour was not related to any change in Sandboxie. As I have already written, I suspected the KB4493472 update, but when I uninstalled this update, the problem didn't fix.

I already have this setting unchecked, but SuRun displays the tooltips anyway.

I have tried to check it and uncheck it again, but without success.

Here are my other setting screens:

I can switch it off by unchecking "Display user status as Boloon tips". Is this what you meant?
But I wonder why SuRun started showing tool tips all of sudden, it didn't do that before. And I haven't played with its settings.

Subject: SuRun started showing tooltips for sandboxed apps
I use SuRun for starting windows services from a script, only.

I haven't run my script for long time (several weeks), but today I did. It executed correctly, but since then, SuRun displays the following tooltips:

The text in the tooltip is the title of the application that received focus. SuRun displays this tooltip each time a (sandboxed) application receives focus, i.e. about once a minute in average. SuRun didn't do that before, and I haven't found anything in the SuRun settings that would turn this type of tooltips off.

I haven't updated SuRun for a long time, neither my sandbox engine (Sandboxie). I am not aware of any other configuration changes that could cause this change in SuRun behaviour.

SuRun 1.2.1.2, Windows 7 Pro x64. I use sandboxed Firefox, and from there sometimes explorer or notepad. Each time I switch to any of these apps, the SuRun tooltip is shown.

Edit: The problem might be related also with the last Windows update, KB4493472, more weird things started to happen after this update. Anyone experiences this behaviour?

The solution is the same as http://forum.kay-bruns.de/post/4085. Turning off the feature solves both problems.

I solved it by changing the SuRun advanced settings:

Settings > check Show SuRun settings for experienced users, and then
Settings > Execution Hooks > uncheck "Set a Hook into all processes that directly execute applications"

I've also unchecked

Settings > Execution Hooks > "Install filter to intercept program execution of the Windows user interface".

Now SuRun does (or seems to do) exactly what I want it to do, and nothing more.

SuRun 1.2.1.2, Windows 7 Pro x64

In particular, even when the following checkboxes are unchecked in the SuRun settings, SuRun still shows the features (even after user logoff-logon):

1. Show "Start as Administrator" in the System menu of applications
2. Display baloon tips for active programs running with different user credentials

...and maybe others.

This problem is related to the problem that SuRun interferes elevation of all windows processes, not only those started with SuRun. (I pointed this out in a previous thread in this forum.)

I use a file-manager (FarManager, https://www.farmanager.com/) that allows elevation of its own rights when copying files to a folder that needs it (e.g. to "Program Files"). It does that by creating a sub-process with elevated rights. The sub-process is invisible (it does not have its own window), and its parent process is normally the file-manager process.

After installing SuRun, it doesn't work this way anymore. When the file-manager wants to elevate itself, the secure desktop occurs as usual, but now with the SuRun dialog instead of the standard Windows one. The result is that the elevated file-manager process is now visible and its parent is not the original file-manager process.

Windows 7 Pro x64, SuRun 1.2.1.2.

I run my Firefox sandboxed (in Sandboxie) with execution of most applications prohibited. When I download a .docx document, Firefox starts the Microsoft Word Viewer for it. But at the same time, Sandboxie prohibits SuRun from running.

Why is SuRun trying to run at this time? Firefox nor the Word Viewer runs under an elevated account.

Edit: This behaviour disappears when unchecking

Settings > Execution Hooks > "Set a Hook into all processes that directly execute applications"

But this does not answer the question.

Subject: SuRun hacks the secure desktop
I have Windows 7 Pro with UAC on, and logged in with a domain account. SuRun 1.2.1.2.

I have found that SuRun replaces the standard secure desktop dialog:

 [Image: https://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/ximage178.png.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+ws+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.svDxt6uDgG.png]

with its own (similar to but not the same to the one on the picture):

 [Image: http://kay-bruns.de/wp/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/13-restartclock.png]

it does that not only for applications executed with SuRun, but for ALL applications that need elevated rights.

Question: Is it possible to revert this and leave the SuRun dialog only for programs run via SuRun?

I am "a little nervous" about the modified secure desktop. At first, the secure desktop is supposed to be one of the most sensitive parts of Windows. At second, if there's any bug in SuRun, it can cause serious problems.

Thank you,
          Martin.
